The aim of the international cooperation network MEDCOAST, which was established in the early 1990s and managed by the Secretariat of the Middle East Technical University, is to provide scientific support and contribution to increase the integrated coastal management capacity in the Mediterranean and Black Sea countries, by providing the coastal and marine areas of these two very valuable closed seas. to realize its rational use and protection. MEDCOAST scientific activities, which started with the first international congress held in Antalya in 1993, have been successfully continued until today. Between 1993 and 2019, MEDCOAST congresses were held 5 times in Turkey and 9 times in other Mediterranean / Black Sea countries with two-year intervals, a total of 14 times. In the international training programs called Mediterranean Coastal Institute, the expertise of participants from all Mediterranean and Black Sea countries in "integrated coastal management", "beach management" and "marine strategy and planning of foreign areas" has been developed.
